Do you know your Chardonnay from your Shiraz? Could you distinguish a Semillon from a Sancerre? Well now is your chance to find out as MFDF 2009 presents an exciting new event for serious wine lovers and novices alike.

Our MFDF Independent and Local Wine Festival (Friday, October 2 - Saturday, October 3) is set to celebrate the finest independent wine merchants on our doorstep, as well as the host of talented professionals that belong to the region.

Making its debut at the Second Floor Gallery inside the iconic Urbis building, the two-day festival promises to be an innovative fusion of expert knowledge and unique, stunning wines. Whether you’re a connoisseur or struggle to navigate your way around a wine list, this event is certain to whet your appetite for wine.

Throughout the two days, bespoke retailers from across Greater Manchester and their associated producers will present a plethora of wines in the festival’s main tasting area. Here you can spend the whole day sipping samples, learning about the different varieties, vintages and values, and then purchase any bottles you love.

For those with more of a thirst for wine knowledge, there will be a schedule of tutored tastings and masterclasses to indulge in throughout the day. Hosted by passionate experts from Manchester and beyond, the sessions will provide a comprehensive insight into the world of wine with specialist classes for the more experienced wine connoisseur to general beginner tastings.

This is the ultimate urban celebration of wine, and a brand new Festival highlight not to be missed.
